Abraham walked in complete faith. I know we all know the story, but it still amazes me how much faith he had. We know that it was his faith that made him heed God’s voice to leave Harran at the age of 75 to go to an unknown land that God promised him (Genesis 12:4-5). He literally walked in faith.
Now we know he was not perfect, he did have his moments of fears, but he overcame them. He is known as a pillar of faith in Hebrews chapter eleven. “By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise. ” (Hebrews 11:9). Abraham lived and walked in faith despite not always knowing where he was going nor what was going to happen to him and his family.
We may never have a moment in life as profound as Abraham’s, but we also must walk in faith. We may never have God directly tell us in an audible voice to move, but he can “tell” us what direction to go by opening doors we never thought about, or closing doors if we are going in the wrong direction. God can and will “communicate” with us if we pay attention, and live lives according to His will and not our own.
Walking in faith is not an easy thing to do. I find it kind of scary to go into the unknown when God opens a door, especially, if it is in a direction that I have never really considered. However, at the same time, it is very exciting. Going out in faith into the unknown can create a paradox of emotions inside us. I believe this paradox is because we are both carnal and spiritual at the same time and the two war against each other. I just need to learn to “feed” the correct side of myself, so that peace can win over anxiety.
I believe God wants all of us to be added to the faith group. He desires us to trust Him with all our hearts and souls. I also have seen that when I do trust Him and let go of the “steering wheel,” He will direct my steps (Proverbs 16:9). His direction may not be the way I thought I should go, that is why I need to not lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).
Therefore, walk in faith. Let God lead you. Ask Him to reveal His will for your life. You never know what opportunities may happen, what new “lands” you may encounter, or what new aspect of yourself you may learn. Yet, when the fears of the unknown start coming at you, cast them all onto God because He cares for you and is big enough to help you through it (1Peter 5:7).
